Glass Mould
Laser Cladding For Glass Mould
The base materials of glass molds are mainly cast iron and copper alloy. Cast iron features good toughness yet low surface hardness and insufficient wear resistance. Copper alloy boasts excellent thermal conductivity, but it softens rapidly under high temperatures and performs poorly against adhesive wear.
A high-energy-density laser beam instantly heats the surface of the glass mold, melting the high-hardness, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant cladding material preplaced on the surface. The molten material forms a metallurgical bond with the mold substrate (bond strength >300 MPa, dilution rate <5%). This process significantly strengthens the surface performance of glass molds, delivering high hardness, low friction coefficient, outstanding wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The service life of molds can generally be extended by 2 to 3 times.
Laser Cladding Process for Glass Molds
Common glass mold components include blank molds, forming molds, neck molds, bottom molds, neck rings, plungers, and baffles. Nickel-based alloy powders are the primary cladding material, with hardness ranging from HRC 23 to HRC 30. For plunger molds, tungsten carbide is added to nickel-based powder to further boost surface hardness.
